Farm Forestry Services

John Woodley, Director of Farm Forestry Services, has a lot of experience and a good understanding of all aspects of timber plantation establishment, management from nursery work to logging of both native forests and plantation grown timber trees, and milling both softwood and hardwood sawlogs. He leads a team of enthusiastic and skilled silviculture tradesmen. John is a plantation owner, forestry joint venture partner, farm forestry advisor, pruned stand auditor and licensed hardwood faller and sawlog grader. John has hosted Farm Forestry tours and co-organised a Master Tree growers course in 2005. John has been involved with trial work with Department of Primary Industries in farm forestry plantations and is enthusiastic about the future for plantation grown timber. He has set up his property at Taggerty to demonstrate different ways that trees can be utilised on farms.

sugargumreserach

A trial plantation for scientific purposes to research different stocks of Eucalyptus cladocalyx (sugar gum) . This trial will identify which stocks are the most suitable to grow straight trees which require little pruning. It is interesting to note the differences between stock trees with some retaining their lower limbs and others shedding them early.

It is of concern that this important trial is lacking ongoing funding at present.
